Obtaining individual voluntary arrangement (IVA) answers could help homeowners who are concerned about the cost of paying fuel bills as the temperature drops.
According to research from moneysupermarket.com, over 24 million people would prefer to keep their spending down by putting on an extra layer rather than putting the heating on.
"There is no doubt many of us will be worried about an expensive energy bill landing on the doormat in January," remarked energy manager at the price comparison website Scott Byrom, adding it is "concerning" that people are refraining from switching on the heating because they worry about how they are going to pay their bills.
The findings follow the release of statistics from the government, which revealed 4.5 million households in the UK were in fuel poverty in 2008, up from four million in 2007.
Such individuals may benefit from seeking IVA answers, as they may be able to be debt free in five years, providing they owe at least £15,000 to three or more creditors and are dedicated to improving their financial situation.
