Problems arising as a result of the recession are damaging Britons’ mental health, it has been argued.
Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson has called for greater attention to be paid to the difficulties being faced, stating that debt worries are affecting wellbeing.
"High levels of unsecured personal debt, job insecurity and workplace stress all damage our wellbeing," she stated.
Those who need help coping with unsecured loans may be able to reduce the stress by seeking IVA advice, as solutions are available.
But Ms Swinson urged the government to focus on mental health, as well as taking steps such as encouraging responsible lending and ensuring that people stay in work, to help individuals avoid debt problems.
Growing numbers of people may wish to turn to IVA help, as recent research by Harris Interactive showed that two-thirds of people have had trouble sleeping at least once a month as a result of money worries.
