People already struggling to cope with their debts may need to start thinking about asking individual voluntary arrangement (IVA) questions if the wintry weather results in them being involved in an accident.
This is because the AA has claimed the hazardous conditions caused by the current cold snap have led to a flurry of car insurance claims from those who have suffered a collision on the road.
The organisation noted there has been a ten per cent increase in such action compared with a snow-free December - which may mean those deep in the red have extra cause for worry.
Director of AA Insurance Simon Douglas said: "If the road surface is icy, our advice is to try to keep a gap of ten seconds between yourself and the vehicle in front to minimise the risk."
David Rodger, managing director of Debt Advice Foundation, recently advised Britons to prepare for financial uncertainty as the prospect of redundancy can affect their monetary position considerably.
