Taking financial control 'is a top priority'

Saturday 15th of January 2011

2011 could bear witness to an increasing number of people asking individual voluntary arrangement questions to help get their money situation in better working order, following new findings.

Research carried out by Lloyds TSB found taking control of finances was among the most popular new year's resolutions for Brits at the turn of the year.

The study revealed 11 per cent of those questioned highlighted this as their top priority - second only to losing weight and keeping fit.

However, Greg Coughlan, head of savings at the bank, warned: "We all start the new year with good intentions but as the weeks go by it's easy to let our resolve slip, particularly when you can't see the results."

He added saving money is similar to going to the gym - people would like to do it but keep putting it off until a later date.

Annie Shaw, editor of CashQuestions.com, recently claimed debt problems are likely to persist throughout the year for many UK adults.
