Students have been offered advice in order to help with their debt management efforts.
According to Push.co.uk, accumulating debt is inevitable for all but the wealthiest of students, but techniques can be adopted to minimise its effect.
Editor of the university guide site Johnny Rich explained that taking all available support is key, as well as limiting outgoings and drawing up a budget.
He noted that student loans are paid over a lengthy period of time - "so there is no need to worry about the burden of the student loan debt when you graduate" - but that other forms of finance can cause debt management problems.
Mr Rich suggested avoiding expensive brands when shopping and remarked: "If you don’t need to spend it, don’t spend it."
His comments come after a National Union of Students survey revealed that a quarter of students are set to receive less financial support from their parents as a result of the economic downturn.
