An increasing number of people may be considering asking individual voluntary arrangement questions, as it has emerged more and more UK adults appear to be experiencing debt problems.
The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) has revealed a sharp uptake in the amount of consumers using its CCCS Debt Remedy online tool.
It noted 8,591 people utilised the method in January - twice the number who used it in previous months and a greater amount than seen in any four-week period in 2010.
The CCCS claimed it anticipates a significant increase in the number of people employing the tool this year compared to last year - when 65,825 adults turned to the scheme.
Delroy Corinaldi, external affairs director at the body, said: "The next year will be very difficult for many people."
Earlier in the month, the CCCS suggested the number of individuals filing for insolvency is unlikely to improve in the coming months.
