'More childcare costs help' needed

Families already straddled with debt may find a lack of childcare costs help is exacerbating their financial troubles.

Tim Nichols, spokesman for Child Poverty Action Group, has claimed more government support is needed to aid low income households in this regard.

But for those already deep in the red, they may find seeking individual voluntary arrangement answers is a practical route out of their difficulties.

Mr Nichols said there is not an adequate supply of childcare from the state and suggested greater investment in such provisions is required to address the matter.

"Families will not be able to counter the costs without a strategy from government focused on making high quality childcare much more affordable," he explained, adding failure to do so could result in parents being unable to take up the jobs they would like to.

The tenth annual childcare costs survey from Daycare Trust recently revealed the price of a nursery place for a child of two or over in England has escalated 4.8 per cent since last year.
