People who are already deep in the red and considering asking individual voluntary arrangement questions may wish to take extra care to ensure they do not exacerbate their financial problems this Valentine's Day.
NFU Mutual has advised that married and engaged couples should make sure their wedding and engagement rings are properly valued and adequately insured to avoid any preventable heartache on February 14th.
The organisation noted the cost of claims for repairing and replacing jewellery has leapt by 33 per cent since 2006.
It means that the average cost of a claim for such items that were either lost, stolen or damaged in 2010 stood at £3,671.
This represented a jump of more than £900 when compared with statistics gathered four years earlier.
Paul Richardson, home insurance specialist at NFU Mutual, said: "It's quite possible for women to be unaware of the value of their engagement rings, given many are bought as a surprise by their partner."
