Support for those who find themselves out of work as a result of the recession has been welcomed by Citizens Advice.
The charity noted that an extension of tax credits to cover childcare costs for those who unexpectedly lose their jobs was a positive aspect of yesterday’s Budget.
However, it added that those who are facing mounting debt management problems may find that more action needs to be taken to make a real difference.
Director of policy Teresa Perchard explained that efforts need to be made to ensure people take advantage of the benefits available to them.
Calling for "ambitious targets" to be drawn up, she said: "Too many people are currently missing out on crucial benefits … and this could make a huge difference to their wellbeing in these difficult times."
Meanwhile, research by Which? has indicated that credit card customers could be facing greater debt management difficulties, with many providers having raised interest rates in the last year.
