News that the fourth out of six major energy suppliers is increasing its prices may lead those with a backlog outstanding repayments to seek individual voluntary arrangement answers if they find they can no longer cope with the financial strain.
Commenting on the news that npower is hiking its fees on gas and electricity by five per cent from January 4th, director of consumer policy at uswitch Ann Robinson stated the move represents a "tipping point".
"The majority of households will now be hit hard at a time of year when many struggle to meet their bills anyway," she stated, adding: "This is a bitter blow to consumers."
It means that cash-strapped Brits who have their power supplied by Scottish Power, Scottish and Southern Energy, British Gas and now npower have all had to cope or will soon be faced with an increase in their energy bills at a time when many rely on more fuel to heat their homes.
Last week, a survey published by moneysupermarket.com found that seven out of every ten individuals hold concerns about how they will pay their heating bills this winter.
