Financial information ‘must be secure’

Financial information 'must be secure'

Thursday 3rd of February 2011

People already deep in the red and considering asking individual voluntary arrangement questions to improve their lot may wish to take extra care to make sure that whatever money they do have is kept secure.

Tony Neate, managing director of GetSafeOnline.org, has warned that adults in the UK need to be extra careful when dealing with financial matters over the internet.

The specialist claimed people need to increase their web security by setting up an email system that recognises phishing messages - as well as never answering online correspondence asking for monetary information or usernames and passwords.

"Financial institutions will never ask you for a username and password in an email. My suggestion to anybody who gets these emails is to delete it," Mr Neate added.

His comments come after a recent MyVoucherCodes.co.uk study revealed one in ten individuals have fallen victim to spam emails - such as ones that appear to have been sent by banks.
