Falling energy prices may ease debt management concerns

The UK’s utilities suppliers are fighting for the title of the cheapest energy provider and are slashing both gas and electricity tariffs.

Although the record price hikes seen this time last year may be fresh in the memory of those who struggled with debt management issues in the face of soaring energy bills, the burden may be eased this year for those who take advantage of the price cuts.

Price comparison site uSwitch has reported that customers can get the best deal by moving to an online tariff, as energy providers are rushing out lower prices as they look to become the cheapest provider ahead of the winter season.

"If consumers want to benefit they need to ditch their expensive standard plans and move to one of the new online energy plans," said Will Marples, energy expert at uSwitch.com.

Savings of up to £214 a year may prove highly valuable to those who are struggling to develop a sustainable debt management strategy.
