Debt management plan could ease Dumfries debt crisis

Debt management plan could ease Dumfries debt crisis

Thursday 15th of October 2009

A debt management plan could be of use to any number of the 70 people in Dumfries who go to the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) each month with serious debt problems.

Between them, almost £1 million is owed to various creditors - an increase of five per cent from last year - reports the Dumfries and Galloway Standard.

Christine Sinclair of Dumfries CAB said of the debtors: "Many of them are struggling to pay their mortgage which could be the result of a job loss or perhaps a person can no longer get overtime at their work."

A debt management plan could help indebted Britons pay back debt before the problem becomes severe.

Almost £1.7 million of debt has been written off in Dumfries between April and September because of bankruptcy.

But a debt management plan may be able to restructure repayments and reduce interest rates on debt before a Briton’s debt situation spirals out of control.
