The economic climate has left Britons with little money to set aside, a poll has revealed.
According to moneysupermarket.com, debt management is likely to become an even greater problem in the coming year, as consumers are struggling to save and unemployment is rising.
The price comparison site found that 36 per cent have less money put away now than they did two years ago, with just six per cent able to take advantage of tax-free allowances.
Head of banking Kevin Mountford said: "A quarter of people have no money at all put aside, which shows just how serious rising unemployment will become over the coming year."
The Money Advice Trust recently suggested that changes to rules concerning credit card lending could help consumers with debt management problems.
According to the charity, preventing firms from raising limits without a request from the customer will force people to address such issues sooner.
