35% 'do not prioritise financial security'

The number of people seeking individual voluntary arrangement answers could be about to escalate following the release of research suggesting many adults in the UK are not confronting their monetary problems.

Carried out by Scottish Widows, the study revealed 35 per cent of Britons believe their priority level for financial security is below the ideal rate.

The poll showed that despite the recession officially ending in late 2009, many people are failing to get their cash flow in order.

Savings expert at Scottish Widows Iain McGowan said: "Although it can seem daunting, taking the first steps towards improving your financial outlook is vital in getting control of other areas of your life."

The survey also found 39 per cent of those questioned - which equates to 18 million individuals - do not feel they are able to save enough.

R3 recently suggested the financial position for many individuals could worsen over the coming months due to factors such as inflation and the rise in VAT.
