25% dip in store card spending

Tuesday 25th of January 2011

The British public appears to be exercising caution with its purchasing practices, as new research has found store card spending has dipped.

Carried out by the Finance and Leasing Association (FLA), the study revealed such outlay was down by 25 per cent in November.

But for those whose poor spending habits have already got way out of hand, asking individual voluntary arrangement questions could be a way for them to get their finances in a more workable order.

FLA head of consumer finance Fiona Hoyle said the figures send a clear message to the government regarding "the challenges to be faced when considering further regulatory changes in the consumer credit sector while ensuring that the UK maintains a competitive market with real consumer choice".

The recent HSBC Savings Map of Britain revealed man Britons found it difficult to save last year, with 40 per cent withdrawing more cash than they could put aside.
