Two stars of a reality television programme have spoken about how they have had to take the step of contacting a bankruptcy lawyer after their lavish lifestyle caught up with them.
In an exclusive interview with Life and Style Magazine, Spencer Pratt said he and his wife Heidi Montag had been immature about handling their finances and had been too caught up in enjoying their new-found fame.
According to the publication, the pair squandered a total of $10 million (£6 million) on a life of luxury that included a failed $3 million investment in Montag's music career.
In addition, $35,000 a month was spent on a Malibu home, while hundreds of thousands of dollars covered Montag's plastic surgery costs, private jets and six cars.
The couple - who revealed the announcement they were getting divorced was a publicity stunt - have now moved into Pratt's parents' guesthouse, which they described as a "lifeline".
Montag and Pratt first found fame on The Hills, a show that followed the lives of young people living in Los Angeles.
