Colin Hendry bankruptcy case leads to fraud investigation

Wednesday 28th of July 2010

Former Scotland and Blackburn Rovers defender Colin Hendry is being investigated for fraud after being declared bankrupt last month.

The footballer had been reported to owe thousands of pounds to creditors, as well as a £1 million tax bill, but no official figures were given to the court at the time of the ruling.

And now two of Hendry’s former friends - Hector and Williamina McFarlane - have called on the help of the police, after claiming he borrowed some £95,000 off them shortly before his bankruptcy.

Mr McFarlane commented: "After looking at all the correspondence and paperwork about this loan, we were advised to go to the police. This we have done."

He added: "What we want to know is what his true financial state was at the time."

Hendry also had spells at the likes of Blackpool, Rangers, Manchester City and Coventry City during his playing career.
